About Us

Founded as a partnership in 1975 by Brown University physics professors, Dr. Leon Cooper, a Nobel Prize winning physicist, and Dr. Charles Elbaum, Nestor is a pioneer in the commercial application of neural network technology.  Nestor was incorporated in the State of Delaware in 1981 and completed its initial public offering in 1983.  Nestor subsequently developed a host of intelligent software solutions for decision and data-mining applications.  Our e-Commerce Profitability umbrella product line included software products that detected and controlled fraudulent transactions for financial institutions and retailers.  Our Customer Relationship Management software was a comprehensive solution for effective enterprise-wide customer marketing.

Nestor’s gradual move to traffic applications was culminated in 1997 with the incorporation of Nestor Traffic Systems.  The development of automated traffic enforcement systems, while grown out of
e-Commerce applications, represents the evolution of several commercial traffic sensing applications.  NestorReader, OmniTools and N'Route products were part of the Intelligent Character-Recognition product line licensed by Nestor.  TrafficVision was also developed to monitor traffic flow and to send traffic data to a central Traffic Operations Center.  CrossingGuard®, originally developed for railway safety, was installed in Vienna, Virginia in 1999.

More recently, Nestor released an all digital CrossingGuard® product and expanded its traffic safety product offering to two speed enforcement tools.  Nestor also advanced its service offering with a completely Internet-enabled customer support application called i-Citation.  Developed completely by Nestor’s Research and Development Team, i-Citation allows municipal customers to review the complete evidence package for violations committed in their jurisdictions through any current web portal.

In keeping with the Nestor tradition of developing advanced technology, Nestor now holds 13 active U.S. patents and 2 foreign patents.  8 of our active U.S. patents are for traffic safety systems and services.
